Litigants without Lawyers

If you are reading this, you are probably thinking about bringing or defending a lawsuit without a lawyer’s help. Federal court can be an intimidating place, and there are a lot of things you need to think about and know before representing yourself. There are some resources on this website that you might find helpful.

Of course, this webpage is not authority, so you should not cite it as authority. Lawyers go to college for four years, go to law school for three years, prepare for and take a two-day examination to become bar members, and learn about the practice of law everyday on the job. All of that is just to say that this website may only scratch the surface of what you might need to know in filing, pursuing, and defending a case, but will hopefully give you a start.
