Criminal Justice Act (CJA)

The Criminal Justice Act (CJA) is codified at 18 U.S.C. § 3006A. The Act requires each federal district court to have a plan for furnishing representation to certain criminal defendants who cannot afford to obtain adequate representation. This court's CJA panel is a group of qualified and court-approved lawyers eligible to serve in that role. The court appoints lawyers from the CJA panel on a rotating basis. For more information about the court's CJA panel and for points of contact, visit the Federal Defender's website.
