Re-appointment of Magistrate Judges in Jacksonville and Tampa

United States Magistrate Judge Thomas G. Wilson’s term expires on April 8, 2019. United States Magistrate Judge Monte C. Richardson’s term expires on June 1, 2019. As required by law, the Middle District has established a merit selection panel to consider the re-appointment of Judge Wilson to an eight-year term in Tampa, Florida, and the Middle District has established a merit selection panel to consider the re-appointment of Judge Richardson to an eight-year term in Jacksonville, Florida.  

The duties of a United States magistrate judge, specified in 28 U.S.C. § 636, include conducting most preliminary proceedings in criminal cases, trying misdemeanor cases, conducting pre-trial matters and evidentiary proceedings after delegation from a district judge, and trying civil cases with the consent of the litigants.
