Joel B. Toomey was sworn in as a United States Magistrate Judge on July 6, 2010. Prior to becoming a judge, he served as an attorney in private practice for many years and also as a government attorney at the State Attorney's Office and at the City of Jacksonville Office of General Counsel. He graduated from Duke Law School in 1982 and began his career as a law clerk to the Honorable Gerald B. Tjoflat on the Eleventh Circuit United States Court of Appeals.
