Mock Trial Conducted by Jacksonville Beach Elementary School Students

Last month, 31 Jacksonville Beach Elementary School fourth grade students and their teachers participated in a mock trial presided over by United States Magistrate Judge James Klindt at the Bryan Simpson United States Courthouse in Jacksonville. The students learned of the dangers of texting and driving while participating in a mock civil lawsuit brought against a young driver who allegedly was texting while driving and caused an accident with serious injuries. During the mock trial, the students assumed roles as lawyers, witnesses, jurors, a courtroom deputy clerk, and a courtroom security officer.

After the jurors decided the case in favor of the plaintiff's claim, Judge Klindt fielded a wide range of questions from the students, who also expressed that they had a fantastic experience during their visit.
