NOTICE TO ATTORNEYS REGARDING CM/ECF TRAINING
FOR THE SOUTHERN DISTRICT OF FLORIDA
The Southern District of Florida has made CM/ECF training mandatory for all members of their bar. As an attorney, if you have received CM/ECF training in the Middle District of Florida or the Northern District of Florida, this training will satisfy the Southern District of Florida requirement. In order to provide proof of that training, the Southern District has agreed to accept confirmation of the CLE credit received as the required proof. This confirmation is available on-line to all attorneys who are members of the Florida Bar. The Middle District of Florida does not provide proof of CM/ECF training.
ONLY those attorneys who are admitted to practice in the Middle District of Florida, or who work out of an office located in the counties comprising Middle District of Florida will be permitted to attend training in the Middle District of Florida. Attorneys who fall into the latter category, should bring proof of their business address with them to the training class.
The Clerk’s Office will provide demonstrations of the CM/ECF system along with hands-on training sessions. Training sessions are open to everyone and will be held in the training room at the federal courthouse in Jacksonville, Ocala, Orlando, Tampa and Ft. Myers. Please note that a picture identification is required in order to enter the federal courthouses. Also, electronic communication devices including cell phones, computers and pagers are NOT allowed in the buildings.
Training is available in each of our divisional offices. Before you submit your class registration form, you will be given an opportunity to choose from available dates and times. The training class usually lasts 2 hours or less. The training will provide attorneys and staff the knowledge necessary to file pleadings, convert documents to Portable Document Format [pdf] and retrieve electronically filed documents. This course has been approved for 3.5 hours of continuing legal education credit (C.L.E.R.). Seating is limited. All participants must register for a training class 24 hours in advance of the scheduled training time by signing up electronically or contacting the Clerk’s Office.
